In February 2025 we celebrated 94 years of Launceston Airport serving the community.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic that all but decimated air travel, Launceston Airport commenced a $100m refurbishment with a new Check-in Hall, upgraded security screening, enhanced airfield lighting and total refurbishment of the Departures Hall and terminal amenities.
A brand-new freight facility for Virgin Australia Cargo was built in 2023 to improve capacity and efficiency of growing freight services, and we are currently upgrading the freight apron to accommodate larger Qantas freight aircraft.
At the end of the 2024 financial year, Launceston Airport hit a record 1.42m passengers for the twelve month period.
The Check-in Hall boasts state of the art kiosks for Check-in and Baggage Drop self-serve to improve the overall customer experience and new food outlets in the Departures Lounge have been completed. Tasmania's own Liv Eat healthy eating was opened in May 2025 and Gatty's Bar & Kitchen, named after local aviation navigator, Harold Gatty was opened in June 2025. Kanamaluka is set to open late 2025. All outlets feature locally produced food and beverages and support Launceston's place as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.
In June 2025, Launceston Airport created another milestone with a record 1.43m passengers over a twelve month period.
As passenger and freight movements continue to grow, 2025 also sees the commencement of Taxiway Foxtrot, the first major airfield development since the 1950's, a new home for Ambulance Tasmania and the Royal Flying Doctors Service (Tasmania), additional facilities for the Aviation Fire Service and a new carpark to meet the needs of local travellers.
