Parking Regulations – Why They Matter
Parking rules at Launceston Airport are in place under the Airports (Control of On-Airport Activities) Regulations 1997, specifically Part 2, Divisions 2 and 3. These laws help us manage traffic safely and efficiently on the airport grounds.
Where You Can (and Can’t) Park
- Parking control areas are clearly marked with signs throughout the airport.
- Kerbside parking directly in front of the terminal is not allowed for public vehicles.
- Quick drop-off and pick-up is allowed only if the driver stays with the vehicle and does not exceed 1 minute.
- No Parking/No Standing zones are clearly marked – please do not park in these areas at any time.
- Officers issuing parking notices must follow regulations and cannot cancel notices on the spot.

Vehicle Removal
In some situations, an authorised officer may have a vehicle moved if:
- It's parked illegally and the driver can’t be found
- The driver refuses to move the vehicle
- The vehicle appears abandoned
- It’s causing a traffic issue or blocking airport operations
The owner may be required to cover the reasonable costs of removal and storage.
Abandoned Vehicles
If a vehicle is left unattended for a long time, it may be considered abandoned. In this case:
- A notice will be sent to the registered owner asking for it to be claimed within 14 days.
- If not claimed, the vehicle will be towed to storage.
- A second notice will be sent giving 30 days to claim it and pay any charges.
- If unclaimed, Launceston Airport will advertise in the local paper to give any interested party a final 14 days to make a claim.
- After that, the vehicle may be sold by public tender.
